Assessment 29/06/11 SJA

WWW
  • Own lipsynch task complete with some thoughtful evaluation. You know what worked well, and what you need to focus on improving next time.
  • Thoughtful comments on 'What makes a good music video' task. You clearly understand what features and elements are required and what to avoid - you need to make this post VISUAL though.

EBI
  • Not all posts are complete
  • You need to create a post for your 'In the Sun' lip synch task and write a WWW/ EBI for this
  • You should come back to the post on 'What makes a good usic video' to make this VISUAL - you should take screen grabs or 2-3 second clips (not whole music videos from YouTube) to SHOW readers what you mean.
Effort - GD (... 'IN' until I see that you have uploaded your lip synch on 'In The Sun')

What makes a good music video?

When making a music video, you need to be organised, a lot of planning goes into creating these 2-3 minute long videos and in this length of time, lots of different shots are all crammed together. The effect of having a constant change of shot types is that it keeps our mind occupied, avoiding viewer fatigue. It also catches our eye because if a video was to stay on one shot, our attention would be lost, we would be bored of seeing the same thing, we want excitement and continuous shot changes at a fast pace. Even a slow, relaxed genre of music has a video which explores different shots throughout because it makes it interesting, it is constantly feeding our minds with different angles, distances etc. It also allows the video to explore more than one scene rather than staying in the same place, once again adding more interest and giving the music video more of a story or theme.

Lighting is an important part of making a music video because it sets the mood and adds to the atmosphere. It can completely change the appearance of the scene and can be used in a variety of ways, for example spot lights and strobe lights to natural light. Natural light can be hard to work with and often unreliable as weather can change unexpectably which can ruin the desired look of the scene.

Lip Sync Task.

WWW: We chose a song we were all familiar with and which we knew all the lyrics. By having this knowledge we felt more comfortable with the lip syncing as we knew the melody and when to pause, hold the note etc. We felt that this song allowed us to over exagerate and express ourselves at some parts which made it more fun.
EBI: We could of made this better by using a proper camera recorder, this way we could experiment with shot distances and make it more exciting rather than just the three of us sitting in front of the mac camera. However, we did believe that this task was purely based on lip syncing therefore we didn't feel that much of a need to do any thing more than show us singing. Also I have noticed that we are a few seconds faster than the music, this is due to not being so precise when editing the track and the video together however this was quite hard for us. Next time we know to improve on this and getting the timing precise.
